Marimba Jam Eisteddfod 2017

This year, Marimba Jam launched our very first Marimba Jam Eisteddfod!

This is a competition that is the first of it’s kind- an All African Marimba Eisteddfod. The competition allows student African Marimba Bands to show off their skills and compete in an environment that is both competitive and festive.

This year, the event was hosted by Springfield Convent School at their outdoor stage, allowing parents and friends to braai and picnic while watching the performances. The adjudicator was Dizu Plaaitjies- the head of African Music at UCT.

The evening was a huge success and highly competitive, with many bands earning diploma or honours in their categories.

The results were as follows:

First Place in the Junior Category: “The Originals”- Springfield Convent Grade 7

First Place in the Intermediate Category: “The Dynamics”- Wynberg Girls’ High School Grade 8

First Place in the Senior Category: “Rumble”- Springfield Convent Grade 11

Spirit Award: “Beats and Buns”- Wynberg Girls’ High School Grade 11

Winning School: Springfield Convent

Congratulations to all the participants of this year’s Eisteddfod! We hope to see this competition grow in the years ahead.
