On Sunday 2 April, Marimba Jam set up along the side of Eiselben Road in Mitchell’s Plain as part of the Open Streets Project in Cape Town.
This was the second time our Performing Band has joined the Open Streets Project, the first time being in 2015! This year, we found the project to be more populated and our band was quite the attraction. Many spectators gathered while we played our vibrant tunes, with some joining our performance with street dancing.
Open Streets is an international initiative aimed at changing our views of how we connect with the community. The public are encouraged to bring skateboards, roller-skates, bicycles or their walking shoes while they participate in the interactive activities and performances along a closed off road for a few hours.
This was a fantastic space for Marimba Jam to share our love for African Music with the community of Cape Town and we are sure to be a part of the Open Streets project in the future!
